2015 was a calm year for 404 Tech Support. I had recovered from a Google search algorithm and kept a rhythm. 2016 has been a different story. I moved and began commuting to work in July which took up a lot of my free time and posting to 404 Tech Support became less consistent. I recently landed a new job in information security so the commute is gone but I work with different topics than I have previously cover. Still figuring out my work-life balance, posting to 404TS has remained infrequent. Regardless, 2016 has been a promising year for the site and traffic has remained steady.
In the 2015 reflection, I wrote about a server change for a discounted shared server. Performance was initially high but quickly dropped off. I still use that server for side projects but have moved 404 Tech Support to a VPS run by Vultr, a great host in line with DigitalOcean and other hourly VPS providers. Performance has remained far more reliable with Vultr and fast with moves to PHP 7 and other optimizations while ad and affiliate revenue is able to cover the hosting costs.
