Highest Paying Tech Jobs For New Graduates

2019-06-20 by 404TS Team

“Software is eating the world,” said the co-author of the first Web browser Marc Andreessen. A fact that is certainly true today. From social media to cyber security– technology is integrated in everything we do. As a result, the hiring market for new tech graduates is an endless pool of career opportunities. In a 2016 report from Cyberstates, there were over 182,000 new tech jobs created that year. Today that number has increased, especially as the freelance market continues to expand.

Many of the brightest graduates are now applying their skills on a freelance basis rather than choosing to work for one company. This level of competition has caused a huge demand in the freelance job market with Yoss reporting that companies are only looking to employ the top 1% of tech talent. This means that tech companies are not only looking for applicants with basic skills, but also ones who can climb above the rest.

While freelance jobs are the best bet for new graduates there are also full time jobs that need fresh talent. As a tech graduate, you’re naturally looking for a job that will open the door to a good career path and one that is high paying. Here is a list of the ideal top jobs you can apply for.

Data Scientist

Data scientists are the highest-paying entry-level employees of 2019, according to Comparably. Almost every company has a data scientist, from news outlets to advertising firms, and banks. They analyze data, spot trends, and recommend what problems to tackle and how to solve them. Data scientists can earn an average of $113,254 per year. It’s not surprising that they get paid so much, considering the advanced skill set they need. Data scientists need extensive knowledge in math, software engineering, programming, and the industry they’re going to be working in. This is one of the hardest jobs to get into but also one of the most rewarding.

Mobile App Developer

There’s an app for everything these days, so companies are always looking to hire mobile app developers. ADTMag reports that these developers earn an average of $97,100. Taking into account the better quality-of-life compared to other tech jobs, the 10-year growth opportunity, and overall satisfaction, mobile developers are one of the best jobs to go for. This includes developer discounts for items their company produces and beta testing their own creations.

DevOps Engineer

Development operations engineers or devops engineers ranks number two on Glassdoor’s 50 Best Jobs in America rankings, due to career growth and demand. It has seen a 225% jump in postings on job site Indeed. Devops engineers manage software development and automated systems. They test implemented designs, handle code deployments, and build automation tools. A devops engineer earns an average salary of $89,300 and must have above-average skills in coding, data virtualization, and automation tools.

Software Developer

Software developers are the creative minds behind computer programs, web applications and the underlying systems that run devices or control networks. Business Insider states that a software developer earns around $100,610 annually. They typically have a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, and a strong background in programming tools and languages.

With end of year exams happening across the country, many tech graduates are now thinking of the future. As the tech industry continues to grow there will be plenty of opportunities to start a tech career. Hopefully the above guide has given you some idea of what jobs to look out for. You may not get the average salary right away but it is something to work towards.
