Android apps by Microsoft

Apple, Google, and Microsoft may be competing with their own mobile operating systems and devices. However, Microsoft seems willing to develop for these other platforms beyond just extending their core services. Here’s a look at the apps that Microsoft currently offers on Android, over 40 apps currently and all but one are free.

 Core Services

Bing Search and Bing Rewards – Use Microsoft’s search engine and keep track of your reward credits earned from searching.

Microsoft Office Mobile – An extension of Microsoft Office on Android, unfortunately leans heavily on OneDrive.

OWA for Android – An alternative to using the built-in email and calendar apps, OWA retains the look and feel of Outlook and keeps your setup separate from other email and calendar accounts.

Office 365 Admin – Manage your Office 365 organization on the go.

OneNote and OneNote for Android Wear – Note-taking goes mobile.

Lync 2013 and Lync 2010 – Microsoft’s IM and Unified Communications platform takes to your Android device.

OneDrive – Save and access files in Microsoft’s cloud file storage service.

Dynamics CRM for Phones and Dynamics CRM for Tablets and Dynamics AX and Dynamics NAV and Business Analyzer – Different options to interact with Microsoft’s CRM platform.

Microsoft Account – Manage your Microsoft account from your device.

Intune Company Portal – Browse apps made available to members of your organization.

Microsoft Remote Desktop (and beta) – If you can establish a VPN connection from your device, you can RDP into your computer with this official app without any third party software needing pre-loaded.

Microsoft Tech Companion – Various Microsoft resources like TechNet are available from this app to search for technical solutions.

Microsoft Health – The newest service offering, Microsoft Health goes along with the new Microsoft Band wearable.

Switch to Windows Phone – Changing from Android to Windows Phone? This will assist with the migration.

RMS sharing – Microsoft Rights Management protects your intellectual property, requires an RMS-enabled Office 365 account to use the account.

My Apps – Provides single sign on to different apps using Azure Active Directory.

Games and Entertainment

 Xbox 360 SmartGlass and Xbox One SmartGlass (and beta) – A great marriage between your device and your TV.

My Xbox LIVE – Manage your Xbox Live account from your Android device.

Xbox Music – Access Xbox Music with an Xbox Music Pass to stream music and make playlists.

Wordament – The popular game similar to Boggle and word finds comes to Android.

Kinectimals – The only app in this list that isn’t free, you can continue your Kinectimals fun from the Xbox to your Android.

Snap Attack – A word building game.

QuizToWin – A quiz system tied to a CRM

Age of Empires Online Crafting Guide – An official guide for crafting items in AoE online.

New Projects

Next Lock Screen – An updated lock screen to bring more info and usability to your lock screen.

on{X} – This app allows for a lot of automated configuration on your device, a little like IFTTT.

Climatology – View climate information for anywhere in the world.

TouchDevelop – Create apps simply by tapping the functions you want.

Microsoft Xim – Share your photos without handing off your phone, the viewers don’t even need the app installed.

Journeys & Notes – Share notes and records of your travels.

Torque for Bing & Android Wear – This allows you to ask your Android Wear device a question and you will receive a response from Bing.

Socl – Create and share your media socially.

HelpBridge – Reach out to friends and family in a disaster to let them know if you need help or if you are ok.

Study Portal – Participate in user studies and surveys (by invitation only)
