Pairing Cortana with a Harman/Kardon speaker, the personal digital assistant is coming to a standalone device in 2017. This would put Microsoft in competition with Google Home and the Amazon Echo. To succeed in this space, Microsoft will need greater abilities than a voice-based Bing search such as integrations with other smart home gadgets and streaming services.
