Windows 8 and problems with a redirected My Documents folder

I'm at the two month mark of using Windows 8 as my operating system on my home computer. Over the weekend, I had a lot of research to do and articles to read for an assignment. For reading and taking notes through the articles, the built-in Windows 8 PDF Reader just wasn't cutting it so I went to install Adobe Reader 11. Unfortunately, trying to install Adobe Reader XI resulted … [Read more...]

Controlling how Ctrl+V (Paste) works in Word 2010 by default

Logon scripts to map drives don’t work properly in Windows 8

More testing of Windows 8 at my organization revealed another problem to troubleshoot. Our desktop management group policy automatically mapped a drive using Group Policy Preferences and mapped another through a logon script. The purpose of the logon script was to use local variables and map the drive directly to the folder with the user's username. As it turns out, apparently … [Read more...]

Server 2012: “You must use the Role Management Tool to install or configure Microsoft .NET”

I've encountered this situation before with Server 2008 R2 and it has been a pretty popular article. I'm trying to install SQL Server 2008 R2 and it gives me a message about .NET Framework 3.5 needing to be installed as a prerequisite. However, the framework can't just be downloaded and installed. You have to use the Server Manager. Here are some updated instructions to install … [Read more...]
