Request Your Invite For Google’s Music Beta

2011-05-10 by Jason

I told you there was more to come from Google in this morning’s article. Making good on those promises, the Google Music Beta has launched. If you have been invited, then you can get in. Otherwise, you can request an invite and learn all about the service at music.google.com.

The updated Music app is already available in the Android Market to sync to your music in the Music Beta cloud.

The Music application features a redesigned UI and now supports Music Beta by Google.

Music Beta is a new service from Google that gives you instant access to your personal music collection on the web and your compatible Android devices without the hassle of wires or syncing.

Available in the U.S. by invitation only and free for a limited time.

Not a Music Beta user? You can still use this player to listen to music on your Android device.

The service is free for a limited time and seems mostly motivated to help Android phones compete against the iPhone. Amazon’s Cloud Drive launched recently as well with a similar offering but their motivation is to sell more MP3s. Both may face problems with the record companies since they’ve gone ahead without their endorsement. Amazon allows storing 5GB free while Google is starting off with 20,000 songs for free.

The highlights of Music Beta are listening anywhere – including offline, syncing your library and keeping it in one place, and creating playlists automatically. All in all, it’s pretty basic. Its success will depend on the execution and that can’t be judged until an invitation is received. If it’s anything like waiting for the Google Wave invites, I won’t hold my breath and I’ll hope for a better product.
