Malwarebytes 3.0 released

2016-12-09 by Jason

Malwarebytes has released version 3.0 of their antimalware product. The new features include scanning four times faster, anti-exploit and anti-ransomware signature-less technology, and a new user interface. The company claims that the third generation of their security product is able to replace traditional antivirus though it still works complementary with it if you prefer. By combining Anti-Malware and Anti-Exploit, the product is simply being named Malwarebytes 3.0.

The new UI feature is actually more significant than you might think. The new protection technologies are important but Malwarebytes 2.0 left a bad taste for many people with a bad user interface. You can see screenshots of the interface that looked a lot like scareware in our MBAM 2.0 announcement article, the criticisms in an article showing a draft version of the UI that would later launch with Malwarebytes 2.1.4.

As you can see from the screenshot below, the new Malwarebytes 3.0 has learned from its mistakes and launches with a simple, clean interface that continues the 2.1.4 look and does not try to scare its customers into upgrading to Premium.

Malwarebytes is still free to run a scan and clean up your computer. Several real-time protection tools have been added to increase your protection and those are included with the Premium license and the 14-day trial available with installation. Existing customers can upgrade at their existing price or those with a lifetime license can upgrade for free.

With the combination of our Anti-Malware ($24.95), Anti-Exploit ($24.95) and Anti-Ransomware (free, beta) technologies, we will be selling Malwarebytes 3.0 at $39.99 per computer per year, 20% less than our previous products combined and 33% less than an average traditional antivirus.
