What is Adobe Mobile Link?

2015-02-16 by Jason

Adobe Mobile Link leverages the cloud to make it more convenient for you to access your recently-viewed PDFs from different devices.

The feature recently made itself quite visible in Adobe Reader for the desktop. When you go to File, Open…, you are presented with a banner for Mobile Link. “Get your PDFs, wherever you are. View recent files across devices with Adobe Reader for mobile.”

The ‘Tell Me More’ link takes you to a page with a brief explanation of how to turn on Mobile Link. From the File, Open dialog on your computer, you will want to click the off/on toggle so that the button is closer to On and the switch turns green. You will also need to sign in with an Acrobat.com account.

On your mobile device, you will need to have Adobe Reader installed (iOS | Android) and signed in with the same account.

You can also access these files from the web. At cloud.acrobat.com, you may sign into your account and see your recently-viewed PDFs under the Recent Files tab.

The open icon provides a little information for troubleshooting your connection with Mobile Link. If the Open icon is just a folder (top), Mobile Link is turned off. If there is a green dot on the Open folder (middle), your connection is successful. If there is a cloud with an exclamation mark, Mobile Link is turned on but you are either offline or not signed in.

Users uploading files to Adobe’s servers could run afoul of security precautions and compliance with various privacy acts, so it may be important to centrally disable the Adobe Mobile Link. You may be able to disable Acrobat.com services through Group Policy, the Adobe Customization Wizard, and the Adobe-provided ADMX templates. Alternatively, the registry keys for disabling the miscellaneous features are listed on Adobe’s Preference Reference documentation under Services (Acrobat.com).
