Amazon rolls out enterprise email and calendars with WorkMail

2015-01-28 by Jason

Amazon has opened another front in its battle with Microsoft and Google. Looking to take on Google Apps and Microsoft’s Office 365/Exchange, Amazon Web Services introduced Amazon WorkMail. It is currently in a preview stage but the service allows secured, managed email and calendaring.

Amazon WorkMail is a secure, managed business email and calendaring service with support for existing desktop and mobile email clients. Amazon WorkMail gives users the ability to seamlessly access their email, contacts, and calendars using Microsoft Outlook, their web browser, or their native iOS and Android email applications. You can integrate Amazon WorkMail with your existing corporate directory and control both the keys that encrypt your data and the location in which your data is stored.

A 30-day free trial of Amazon WorkMail for up to 25 users is now available. If you wish to continue using the service after the trial, it weighs in at $4 per user per month with 50GB of mailbox storage for each user. You can also purchase, at $6 per user per month, an integration of 50 GB in Amazon WorkMail and 200 GB in Amazon WorkDocs.

AWS’ WorkMail is compatible with existing clients and offers all of the enterprise features such as mailboxes, shared calendars, and a global address book. It also integrates Zocalo, Amazon’s enterprise-grade competitor to Dropbox or Box. Amazon also lists features as a managed, hosted service with enterprise-grade security that is compatible with Outlook and integrates with Active Directory. Security is also noticeable as the data is protected at rest as it can be encrypted with customer-managed keys.

You can check out Amazon WorkMail at aws.amazon.com/workmail/ and see the full press release for more details.
