When it comes to technology, it can often be difficult to discern actual technical improvements and marketing gimmicks. The ASUS Republic Of Gamers line gives an under-the-hood look at their Ethernet jack to show one way they have made technical improvements for gamers.
ASUS calls their improvement of the RJ-45 jack LANGuard. They have improved the throughput using surge-protected and electrostatically-guarded components. This gives the component a 1.8x higher static electricity tolerance and a 1.5x higher surge tolerance. In case your network takes a lightning strike.
You can see the difference in the components with the ASUS LANGuard on the right. The components are more durable and allow the higher throughput.
ASUS denotes these reinvented LAN ports with a red jack. You can get these on the ASUS Maximus VII Gene motherboards.
Partnered with Intel Gigabit Ethernet, LANGuard, and ASUS GameFirst III, ASUS has refined the RJ-45 jack to provide the reliability gamers want.
