I’m sure by now most of you have heard of the WannaCry ransomware attack that spread across the world recently – affecting thousands of computers and causing concern in the information security community.
The good news is that thanks to “accidental hero” – Marcus Hutchins, who activated the “kill switch” of the virus, the threat has been stopped – at least for the time being.
Hackers have been trying to revive the virus by bringing down Marcus Hutchins domain and thus de-activating the kill switch, but so far their attempts have been unsuccessful.
The lesson here is update, update, update your Windows machines, when prompted by the auto-update software. Do not put off or disable Windows updates, or you risk falling victim to the next hacker attack.
