Last Fall, Yahoo! said it was sunsetting the online bookmarking service, Delicious. After the Internet threw a collective hissy-fit, Yahoo! rescinded in December and said it was looking to sell Delicious, not close it. Now, the new owners have been announced and Yahoo! sent out an e-mail to all Delicious users to inform them of what they need to do during the transition from Yahoo! to AVOS (the new Internet company that now owns Delicious). AVOS also published this press release on its acquisition of Delicious and their Delicious FAQ page for answers to some of the basic questions.
Here’s that e-mail:
Dear Delicious User,
Yahoo! is excited to announce that Delicious has been acquired by the founders of YouTube, Chad Hurley and Steve Chen. As creators of the largest online video platform, Hurley and Chen have firsthand expertise enabling millions of consumers to share their experiences with the world. Delicious will become part of their new Internet company, AVOS.
While I haven’t been the biggest user of Delicious, formerly del.icio.us, I’m happy to see the service continue to live on and see where exactly the bookmarking service can go to be “taken to the next level”. Congrats AVOS and Delicious community!
