Reflecting on 404 Tech Support in 2015

I referred back to my reflection of 2014 before beginning this post and was entertained by the adventure that year was. By comparison, 2015 has been more regular with less excitement.

I received my Microsoft certification as an MCSA for Windows 8.1 this year, as I set out last year. I have been using Windows 10 since Day 1 of its release and will study for the 70-697 exam of Configuring Windows Devices. I also hope to get involved in ConfigMgr v1511 (and the ongoing versions) to learn and leverage the system in my organization.

I started a forum for 404 Tech Support using Discourse in October. After seeing minimal benefit and engagement with it, I am discontinuing the experiment after 2.5 months.

I implemented a new WordPress theme today that is based on the Genesis framework to use in 2016. The goal was to find a theme that was faster with fewer requests than the WooThemes Canvas theme I have been using. It has been a decent improvement to page load time with fewer requests. I was hoping for better but a few plugins add up quickly.

The performance staying steady is great news as I have left my previous host for a new one. Using the new host’s Black Friday sale, I was able to buy 3 years of hosting for the same price of 6 months of hosting on my previous host.

In 2015, 404 Tech Support had almost 750k visitors who consumed over 2 million pageviews. Unfortunately for our revenue, 19.9% of those pageviews used an adblocker.
