Reflecting on 404 Tech Support in 2014

2014 was a pretty good year for 404 Tech Support and myself personally.

I received my diploma for a Masters in Management Information Systems this past year and took some time to relax afterwards. In 2015, I plan on pursuing a Microsoft Certification for Windows and/or Windows Server. I will begin studying from books shortly though it does feel a little silly with Windows 10 around the corner.

404 Tech Support finally started rebounding from the significant decrease in traffic that started way back in April 2013. I’m not sure exactly what changed to turn things around but it is a welcome sight. We utilized SSL and redirected our site to http://www.404techsupport.com/ for secured traffic. I know Google is using HTTPS as a signal but it’s not supposed to have that much weight to a site’s credibility. Now, I just need to get the revenue to follow the increased traffic.

As far as upcoming site changes, we will be retiring our weekly tech headlines. I was proud of myself for maintaining them for so long in an efficient means that still provided quality. Looking at the numbers, the amount of time and a fixed schedule just are not justified. We’ll be replacing the weekly newsletter with a weekly digest of 404 Tech Support articles so if you prefer to receive your notifications via email instead of RSS, you can still do so. I can automate that process and get back to focusing on unique content.

Speaking of unique content…

2015 promises to be an exciting time with Windows 10, a new Windows Server, rumors of a replacement for Internet Explorer, and more wearable devices. I won’t set a goal to have over 330 posts in the next year because I want to hold the line on quality. I look forward to bigger and better projects next year.
