Google Apps Starts Drawing The Line Closer For ‘Modern Browsers’ August 1st

Google announced today that starting August 1st it will be implementing a rolling basis for supporting the current and prior major release of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari.

For this reason, soon Google Apps will only support modern browsers. Beginning August 1st, we’ll support the current and prior major release of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari on a rolling basis. Each time a new version is released, we’ll begin supporting the update and stop supporting the third-oldest version.

As of August 1st, we will discontinue support for the following browsers and their predecessors: Firefox 3.5, Internet Explorer 7, and Safari 3. In these older browsers you may have trouble using certain features in Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Talk, Google Docs and Google Sites, and eventually these apps may stop working entirely.

I’m all for keeping everything up to date but this seems to be cutting it a little close to the latest version. I’ve been stuck with Firefox 3.5 because Blackboard for an online class supposedly has incompatibilities with Firefox 4. I guess, I’ll be upgrading Firefox and using Internet Explorer solely to access Blackboard as needed.

You will be able to find what browsers are supported at any given time with this Google Apps Help page.

In case you need to upgrade, you can download the latest versions for these browsers:

(No mention of Opera.)
