While some people sadly think Beats headphones are the epitome of headphones, other companies are innovating in a variety of ways. Here are four headphones with their own unique spin on the audio experience.
Definitive Technology Symphony 1
Definitive Technology describes their Symphony 1 over-ear Bluetooth headphones as “where precision, elegance, and comfort intersect.” The headphones are finely crafted with high quality sound for the audiophile while Bluetooth connectivity offers convenience. The built-in rechargeable battery offers up to 15 hours of operation while using its active noise cancellation feature. At $399, these headphones have to deliver on the promise of quality construction and solid sound.
Jaybird Freedom F5
The first product release since being acquired by Logitech, Jaybird announced their Freedom in-ear wireless headphones. They use BlueTooth to connect to your phone or other devices and are made sweat-proof so they can accompany you on your long runs. The inline remote uses metal for better durability.
The Jaybird Freedom F5 is the fifth generation of the Freedom wireless buds. The small package offers an 8-hour playback per charge and is currently exclusive to Best Buy at $199.99.
OSSIC X
The OSSIC X started off as a successful Kickstarter project. The headphones that allow 3D audio are available for pre-order with a $100 discount making them $299. Shipping February 2017, these headphones automatically calibrate themselves to the wearer based on turning your head, the shape of your ear, and other such factors. It allows audio to be accurately portrayed beyond surround sound, such as above or below you. The company sees it as a vital component to the VR experience. While these headphones are wired with connections including USB, microUSB, and AUX, they are perhaps the most innovative in the list.
Bose QuietComfort 35
Bose has dominated the market for high quality noise cancelling headphones. They just announced a refresh to the QuietComfort around-ear headphone line that makes them wireless. Using BlueTooth, the QC35 has a 20 hour battery life. Two microphones allow for quality active noise cancellation. It is available for $349.95 in black or silver.
Glow headphones
Another successful Kickstarter project, the Glow headphones use Corning’s Fibrance light-diffusing fibers to light up your headphone cable. They can pulse with the music and you can take control of the light with an Android or iOS app. The cord also includes a microphone and a 5-way controller.
The Glow headphones are available for pre-order at $169 with red, green, or blue lights.
