Adobe begins validating Acrobat for genuine software

Adobe is now validating installed instances of its Acrobat software. A pop-up will notify those that fail the test that their copy is not genuine. You can see an example of the pop-up below.

Adobe states that a non-genuine copy of Acrobat is not covered by warranty or support and could pose a risk to you and your work. This threat could come in the form of a pirated version of the software with additional code or bundled accessories. You may have non-genuine software even if you fully paid for the product if the reseller was selling counterfeit software.

One complaint of the validation testing has appeared in the Adobe support forums and the moderators have requested the serial number for manual validation. Moving to the subscription model with Adobe Creative Cloud should have limited the amount of pirating available with Adobe products but apparently it is still a big enough issue for Adobe to begin taking action.

You can report unauthorized resellers and learn more about the Adobe product validation at adobe.com/genuine.html.
