With a special event last night, NVIDIA introduced the 1000 series of GeForce graphics cards. The series will start with the GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070. The GTX 1080 will hit the market on March 27th at $599 MSRP and the GTX 1070 will land on June 10th at $379.
The technical details of the GTX 1070 are unknown but can be considered the next step down from the GTX 1080. The GTX 1080 sports 2560 CUDA cores and a core clock of 1607MHz. It is capable of 9TFLOPS with 8GB of GDDR5X VRAM at 10Gbps clock. The power consumption is noted to be only 180W.
NVIDIA notes that the GTX 1080 is an increase of 2x the performance of the GTX Titan X card and 3x the efficiency and a significantly lower price. The new design uses “vapor chamber cooling technology and premium materials” to cool the card more efficiently. A special “Founder’s edition” will be available for the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070.
