Ready to see Bash on Windows? Upgrade Windows 10 Insider Preview to Build 14316

The Fast Ring of Windows 10 Insider Preview received a new release today bringing the OS build version to 14316. This preview brings some of the new features that were demonstrated at Microsoft’s Build developers conference, most prominently the ability to run native Bash on Windows and improvements to Cortana.

To run Bash on Ubuntu on Windows, you have to enable the Developer Mode after you update to build 14316. To do so, go to Settings, Update & Security, For developers. Choose “Turn Windows features on or off” and enable the Windows Subsystem for Linux (Beta). Finally, to install Bash, type “bash” in Command Prompt.

Cortana also received some cool new tricks for users with Windows Phone or the Cortana app installed on Android. Cortana can now tell you when the battery on your mobile device is low, find your phone (or ring your phone), and share map directions between devices.
