Installing Windows 10 v1511 Enterprise on a computer today, I was struck by how much bloat comes with the operating system. I could understand including this in the Windows 10 edition, even slightly in Windows 10 Pro. Enterprise costs a premium and is meant for the corporate environment. I am not sure where the Enterprise environment would want these additional applications. Even Solitaire, which was removed with Windows 8, is back. The Live Tile Microsoft/Bing apps like News, Weather, and Travel were a little easier to swallow.
Some of the apps pinned to the Start Menu by default include:
- Candy Crush Soda Saga
- Microsoft Solitaire Collection
- Minecraft: Windows 10 Beta Edition
- iHeartRadio
- Get Office
- Get Skype
‘Get Office’ and ‘Get Skype’ are a little annoying in the Enterprise environment as they are going to have Office 2016 installed on them with Skype for Business but neither app disappears automatically. I have also seen them return after being removed with Updates. Those apps are very mild compared to installing a computer for a C-level executive with Minecraft and Candy Crush greeting them immediately.
The true pain is that the apps introduce more to control in the environment before it is deployed, slowing down Windows 10 adoption and adding more to the checklist.
