Current customers (that remain customers) will keep their current price of $8.99/month for one year.

You can check and change your plan by logging into Netflix and seeing your account.

Back on the main Account page, you will see “Your plan price is guaranteed through at least October 8, 2016.”

The price increase is being handled very delicately because the last price increase in 2011 did not go over very well. The one year price freeze for current customers provides plenty of notice so customers will most likely not have the mass exodus as before. Netflix and technology in general have both changed a lot in the last four years with broadband and streaming capability becoming more prominent than the DVD subscription plan allowed. Netflix has also introduced award-winning original programming, which differentiates themselves from the neighborhood video rental store.

Are you a current Netflix customer? Do you think this price increase is acceptable? Will you remain a customer in 2016? Sound off in the forum-integrated comments.
