Amazon discounts Prime membership for today only, announces Mr. Robot streaming rights

Amazon has discounted its annual Prime membership to $67 today (normally $99) and the discount ends at midnight. The award comes in celebration of the Amazon original series Transparent winning 5 Emmy’s at the past weekend’s award show.

On Sunday night, the star of Transparent, Jeffrey Tambor, took home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Transparent creator Jill Soloway took home the trophy for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. Prime members can watch Transparent at no additional cost using the Amazon Video app for TVs, connected devices, phones and tablets, or online at Amazon.com/Transparent. Transparent is the second Amazon show to become an Emmy winner. Earlier this year Amazon Original kids series Tumble Leaf took home five Daytime Emmy wins including Outstanding Preschool Children’s Animated Program.

Prime members can look forward to several new upcoming original series premiering this year, with the coming-of-age dramedy Red Oaks premiering on October 9, followed by the much anticipated adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s The Man in the High Castle on November 20, and season two of Emmy-winning Transparent December 4. Coming in 2016 will be the second seasons of Mozart in the Jungle, Bosch and romantic comedy, Catastrophe, along with the debut season of The New Yorker Presents.

Sign up for Amazon Prime before 11:59 PM Pacific Time tonight to enjoy the benefits of Prime membership for $67 on your first year’s membership. Prime benefits include free two-day shipping, unlimited streaming video with Prime Video, unlimited streaming music with Prime Music, unlimited photo storage on Amazon Cloud Drive, exclusive Amazon Lightning deals, and the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.

Unfortunately, the deal is only for those becoming new Prime members. Existing members are unable to renew or credit their account at the discounted rate.

Mr. Robot

Amazon also announced in a press release that they have acquired the exclusive streaming rights to the USA Network series Mr. Robot. The show has been very well reviewed and has even survived with a technology-driven plot that gets the tech right.

Starting this Spring, Prime Video in the U.S. will be the exclusive subscription streaming home for Mr. Robot. Prime members can watch all ten episodes of the dramatic thriller series that follows a young programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and as a vigilante hacker by night. All ten episodes of season one of the series will exclusively premiere on Prime Video in the U.K., Germany, Austria and Japan.

MR. ROBOT is a psychological thriller that follows Elliot (Rami Malek, “24”), a young programmer, who works as a cyber security engineer by day and a vigilante hacker by night. Elliot finds himself at a crossroads when the mysterious leader (Christian Slater, “The Adderall Diaries”) of an underground hacker group recruits him to destroy the corporation he is paid to protect. Compelled by his personal beliefs, Elliot struggles to resist the chance to take down the multinational CEOs he believes are running (and ruining) the world. The series also stars Portia Doubleday (“Her”), Carly Chaikin (“Suburgatory”) and Martin Wallström (“Simple Simon”).

You can stream the episodes currently from USANetwork.com by signing in with your TV provider.
