For Office 365 ProPlus customers, Office 2016 for Windows arrives today as an update. Volume license customers using the traditional Office 2016 software, will have to wait until October 1st for the software to become available.
Office 2016 for Windows brings a lot of modern features to Microsoft’s productivity suite with an emphasis on collaboration. Office 2016 for Windows has the same look and style as the Office 2016 for Mac released in July. Office 2016 for Mac is now available as a one-time purchase.
Using the tagline ‘takes the work out of working together’, Office allows real-time co-authoring, Skype for Business, Office 365 Groups, Office 365 Planner (available next quarter), and GigJam (in private preview today). These features focus on building work together instead of isolated individuals.
Excel includes integration with Office 365’s Power BI for applying business intelligence to your data. Excel also includes new chart types to better represent your data and demonstrate your points.
Office 2016 also includes new enterprise features including Data Loss Prevention, multifactor authentication, and information rights management in Visio. Enterprise Data Protection in Windows 10 will support Office Mobile later this year and will include Office on Windows in early 2016. Visio 2016 and Project 2016 also received updates.
