Microsoft provides virtual machines to test the web against all versions of IE

Microsoft has provided virtual machines in a variety of platforms to allow testing the web against Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer.

In yesterday’s post to the Microsoft Edge Dev blog, it was explained that the team had improved the VM build process so that VMs of Edge could be provided sooner. You can download these VMs for Windows, Mac, or Linux on platforms like HyperV, VirtualBox, VMware, VirtualPC, and Parallels. You can download the pre-built VMs from the Tools section of the Modern.ie site.

The downloads can be several gigabytes in size to download. For example, IE11 on Windows 8.1 for VirtualBox runs 4.9GB in size. To avoid the large downloads, you could try a similar service offered free from Microsoft called RemoteIE. “Free test service using Azure RemoteApp to run IE on your Windows, Mac, iOS or Android device.”

They also offer the site screenshot tool or Quick site scan to check for issues.
