Windows 10 release date set at July 29th

Microsoft announced the release date of Windows 10 this morning. Their latest operating system will be available July 29th. Computers from OEMs will have Windows 10 available on that date and you will be able to upgrade from Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 by taking advantage of the 1-year upgrade offer.

Microsoft recorded Cortana making the announcement on SoundCloud:

You can learn more about the upgrade and reserve your free upgrade at windows.com/windows10upgrade.

A Get Windows 10 app will appear in compatible system’s system tray. Mine popped up while writing this article. If you’re not seeing it, check the Windows 10 Upgrade FAQ. You can click that to reserve your free upgrade with a simple click of a button and provide an email address if you would like confirmation of the upgrade. When the upgrade is ready, you will be able to schedule the install for a convenient time from the app. It also includes a compatibility test listing devices and programs that might cause issues with Windows 10.

For more details, you can see the Windows 10 FAQ.

To continue building the excitement with the free upgrade, Microsoft also wants to tout the features and repeated them in today’s announcement posting.
