Successfully attaching a USB drive to my keychain

I was shopping for a new USB 3.0 drive in recent months and finally found a a great drive at a good price with the SanDisk Ultra Fit. My only complaint was that I was having difficulty attaching it to my keyring to ensure I always had it with me. Coming from the LaCie IAmAKey, this was a very obvious, lacking feature for the Ultra Fit drive.

The Ultra Fit does offer a thin slit in the top of it to attach to a keychain but I was having a hard time finding anything to attach to that hole. I could not just attach it directly to the key ring without it seeming like the thin plastic loop was going to break and the same went for a quick disconnect keychain accessory I tried. I also had a flat metal loop from a previous keychain but felt the same fragile bit of plastic if the loop twisted in any way.

Finally, I stumbled across something with a string loop on Amazon that might work. The OP/TECH USA 1mm Mini QD Loop has ended up working out great. The string is not too long (though it could be slightly shorter) and satisfies a number of my hopes for the drive. The string fits through the thin slit of the drive without problem and loops through to hold onto it securely. The plastic disconnect also attaches it securely while also providing the ability to disconnect the drive from my keyring, in case I need to go somewhere else and leave the drive plugged in.

The Mini QD Loop ends up being a little bit longer than a key but has the flexibility to still work on a key chain. Sold in a pack of four, the Mini QD Loop cost just under $5 with free shipping from Amazon.

As you can see, the string and attachment makes it a little longer than a key but its flexibility and strength will keep it attached securely.

  • 1mm or 1.5mm Nylon cord loop works great with small connection points
  • Sold in sets of four
  • Made in the USA

With the OP/TECH USA System Connectors, the camera/binocular owner has several connection options. You can buy an extra set of connectors to customize the strap to best suit your needs. Straps can be lengthened to be worn across the chest or shortened to be worn at chest level.

Mini QD Loops allow users to fasten small cameras to many OP/TECH USA neck straps. They incorporate a thin cord loop for tight camera strap connection areas and 3/8″ quick disconnects for easy attachment to strap. They are approximately 2.5″ in length when attached to a camera. The Mini QD Loops System Connector is available in sets of four.

The Mini Loop Connector is small but mighty and perfect for compact cameras! It has a tensile strength of 44lbs which far exceeds the demands of a compact camera.
