Pinterest recently posted to their Engineering blog about fighting spam at Pinterest. Given the high amount of referral traffic that Pinterest sends out, it makes sense for spammers to target the collection-based social network.
I ran into some malware-spam on Pinterest a couple of years ago. I reported the pins that led to malicious webpages but they were still out there for months until I lost interest in seeing if my reports and write-ins to the company support would amount to anything. I remembered and checked back about a year later and the pins were finally gone but all that time the site was directing people to malware traps.
It seems that Pinterest has improved itself since then based on the numbers provided in the ‘Fighting spam at Pinterest‘ post this past week. They even made a “documentary” on it, embedded below.
