5K Player, a media player and YouTube downloader for Mac

Updated: 2017-09-12

5K Player is a media player for Mac that covers a variety of entertainment options from its first version 2.0 release in 2015.

It includes online radio options, DVD playback, and plays local video and music files. A lesser known feature, 5K Player also includes a YouTube downloader and operates as an AirPlay sender & receiver to stream movies or music from an iOS device to a Mac OS device and is also capable of mirroring the iPhone/iPad screen on Mac.

As evident by its name, the 5K Player emphasizes its ability to play 4K and 5K videos. It is able to play over 180 video and 60 audio formats including MKV, AVI, MP4, WMV, FLV, MP3, AAC, and FLAC.

5K Player operates on most Apple devices running OS X 10.7 or later with around 100MB capacity.

The YouTube downloader allows you to paste in a URL, get information about the video, and download an offline copy of the video. This tool actually works with Facebook, Vimeo, and other sources as well.

To note here, 5K Player provides an option to choose video format and resolution before download. Click the Gear icon on the analyzed result, to choose video in 720p, 1080p or even 2160p to download (provided that the original video supports this resolution).

Last but not least, 5K Player does more than play videos and download YouTube content. It can stream movie music from iPhone/iPad to Mac computer, or from Mac computer to AppleTV. Moreover, it is able to record iDevice’s screen on Mac.

A free download of 5K Player for your Mac is available from its official site www.5kplayer.com. A Windows version is also available.
