NBC will be streaming 11 hours of Super Bowl coverage this Sunday to lure fans to their TV Everywhere offering. For the Super Bowl coverage, no pay TV account will be required. The half time show will be broadcast as well after NBC was able to clear the digital music rights to the performances. Super Bowl Ads can be watched on Hulu and YouTube.
As malware distributors take advantage of big events like the Super Bowl, it’s a good security practice to stick to official sites for streaming. Both NFL.com and SuperBowl.com will link to NBC’s live stream of Super Bowl XLIX for US-based fans. It’s free and won’t require any credentials. Third-party streams may also be “free” but could be handing out malware or taking advantage of visitors in different ways.
NBC Sports is well versed in streaming live events after they offered the 2014 Winter Olympics from Sochi, Russia streaming online. They will be using similar products meaning Adobe, Akamai, and Microsoft Azure will be put to work. NBC will be streaming the video up to 720p HD quality and is slated to include interactive online features and social connections complementing the broadcast. NFL Now will also serve up Super Bowl content.
Due to an exclusivity contract with Verizon, NBC does not have the NFL live-streaming rights on smartphones so the free game broadcast will only be available on tablets and computers. If you live outside of the country, you can watch the Super Bowl, included with the NFL Game Pass, for $9.99.
If you’re attending The Big Game, you won’t be able to stream the game from inside the University of Phoenix Stadium according to the NFL. Instead, they are launching a Super Bowl Stadium App with Verizon Wireless to provide exclusive in-stadium video content including commercials and replays.
