Google’s Project Ara to allow modular phones will begin in 2015. They will be launching the project in Puerto Rico.
The benefits of the modular phone would be to allow upgrades, specialized components, and easier repairs. This is demonstrated in the video with an improved camera, night vision capabilities, and a broken screen. There really is quite a lot of potential. It will be interesting to see it unfold.
