iOS and Mac OS X apps by Microsoft

Apple, Google, and Microsoft may be competing with their own mobile operating systems and devices. However, Microsoft seems willing to develop for these other platforms beyond just extending their core services. Yesterday, we looked at Microsoft’s apps for Android. Here’s a look at the apps that Microsoft currently offers on iOS and Mac OS X.

iOS

Microsoft Office Mobile (iPhone) – An extension of Microsoft Office on Android, unfortunately leans heavily on OneDrive.

Microsoft Word (iPhone | iPad) – Edit Office files with an Office 365 subscription.

Microsoft Excel (iPhone | iPad) – Edit Office files with an Office 365 subscription.

Microsoft PowerPoint (iPhone | iPad) – Edit Office files with an Office 365 subscription.

OneNote (iPhone | iPad) – Note-taking goes mobile.

Lync 2013 (iPhone | iPad) and Lync 2010 (iPhone | iPad) – Microsoft’s IM and Unified Communications platform takes to your iOS device.

OWA (iPhone | iPad) – An alternative to using the built-in email and calendar apps for Office 365 or Exchange, OWA retains the look and feel of Outlook and keeps your setup separate from other email and calendar accounts. It also provides additional functionality like viewing shared calendars.

Office 365 Admin (iPhone | iPad) – Manage your Office 365 organization on the go.

Bing Search (iPhone | iPad) and Bing Get MeThere (iPhone) – Use Microsoft’s search engine.

OneDrive (iPhone | iPad) – Save and access files in Microsoft’s cloud file storage service.

OneDrive for Business (iPhone | iPad) – Save and access files in Microsoft’s cloud file storage service for your organization.

Microsoft Remote Desktop (iPhone | iPad) – If you can establish a VPN connection from your device, you can RDP into a Windows computer with this official app without any third party software needing pre-loaded.

SharePoint Newsfeed (iPhone | iPad) – Access your organization’s social channel through SharePoint on this app.

Microsoft HealthVault (iPhone) – Your health information right on your phone or iPad.

Microsoft Health (iPhone) – The newest service offering, Microsoft Health goes along with the new Microsoft Band wearable.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM (iPhone | iPad) and Dynamics AX (iPhone) and Dynamics NAV (iPad) and Microsoft Dynamics Business Analyzer (iPad) – Different options to interact with Microsoft’s CRM platform.

Windows Intune Company Portal (iPhone | iPad) – Browse apps made available to members of your organization.

My Apps (iPhone | iPad) – Provides single sign on to different apps using Azure Active Directory.

RMS sharing (iPhone | iPad) – Microsoft Rights Management protects your intellectual property, requires an RMS-enabled Office 365 account to use the account.

Photosynth (iPhone) – Panorama photo capturing and sharing.

Microsoft Tag (iPhone) – Scan Microsoft Tags or QR codes to save from typing long URLs.

Microsoft Xim (iPhone) – Share your photos without handing off your phone, the viewers don’t even need the app installed.

Microsoft Tech Companion (iPhone | iPad) – Various Microsoft resources like TechNet are available from this app to search for technical solutions.

HelpBridge (iPhone) – Reach out to friends and family in a disaster to let them know if you need help or if you are ok.

Socl (iPhone) – Create and share your media socially.

Xbox 360 SmartGlass (iPhone | iPad) and Xbox One SmartGlass (iPhone | iPad) – A great marriage between your device and your TV.

Xbox Music (iPhone) – Access Xbox Music with an Xbox Music Pass to stream music and make playlists.

Age of Empires Online Crafting Guide (iPhone) – An official guide for crafting items in AoE online.

Kinectimals (iPhone | iPad) – You can continue your Kinectimals fun from the Xbox to your iOS device.

Kinectimals Lite (iPhone | iPad) – You can continue some of your Kinectimals fun from the Xbox to your iOS device.

Wordament (iPhone | iPad) – The popular game similar to Boggle and word finds comes to Android.

Wordament Snap Attack (iPhone | iPad) – A word building game.

Ms. Splosion Man (iPhone | iPad) – A platformer game.

QuizToWin (iPhone) – A quiz system tied to a CRM

SNIPP3T (iPhone) – Celebrity News – A celebrity news app that gathers from all over the web.

Tentacles: Enter the Dolphin (iPhone | iPad) – Tap to play this game about a tentacled creature.

Mac OS X

Office for Mac 2011 – Microsoft Office for the Mac can include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Lync depending on your SKU. Office 2011 is essentially rebranded as Office 365 as well. Just last week, Microsoft discussed a new version of Office coming to the Mac in late 2015 with public beta in early 2015.

OneNote – Note-taking and knowledge organization with collaboration in a single application.

OneDrive – Save and access files in Microsoft’s cloud file storage service.

Microsoft Remote Desktop – If you can establish a VPN connection, you can RDP into a Windows computer with this official app without any third party software needing pre-loaded.

Microsoft Band Sync – The newest service offering, Microsoft Health goes along with the new Microsoft Band wearable.

Windows Phone – Sync your media files between your Mac and your Windows Phone.

RMS Sharing – Microsoft Rights Management protects your intellectual property, requires an RMS-enabled Office 365 account to use the account.
