VMware Kilby ads are full of stereotypes

The guy always on the phone, the IT guy can’t get a girlfriend, and other stereotypes run rampant in this video series from VMware. Usually when I go out with co-workers, it’s mandated to not talk about work. IT Pros are still humans that have interests outside of work like family, TV, movies, and sports. There’s more to talk about than the same thing over and over, apparently that’s not the case with this group.

Nights @ Kilby’s is a series of videos set in a bar somewhere in Silicon Valley where a group of IT folks commiserate on their transition to a software-defined world.

I’d probably fire these guys and hire the bartender and waitress, they seem to know what’s going on and have confidence.

Lots of reactions seem to hate the stereotypes and get particularly enraged by Albert the Infrastructure Architect who acts like he knows it all but doesn’t take legacy applications or other things into consideration.

What’s your reaction to product placement surrounded by stiff, scripted conversations?
