BitTorrent Bleep chat client is encrypted and without central servers

Bleep is a BitTorrent Labs chat client that is in pre-alpha stages. It is designed specifically with security in mind to keep conversations confidential.

The experiment is open to invite only which you can request an invite at labs.bittorrent.com/experiments/bleep/

With NSA and other snooping agents out there, Bleep could be a very welcome addition to those wishing to maintain their privacy. The chat is encrypted and decentralized. If you have ever had qualms about using AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, or Facebook Messenger because your data is stored on their servers, then Bleep may be very relevant to your interests. You can sign up with an email address, mobile number, or unlisted.

The software is currently Windows 7/8.x with plans to expand to other platforms later. Bleep will allow text and voice messages to be transmitted to other people that are currently online.

You can find out more from BitTorrent’s blog write-up yesterday. Bleep joins BitTorrent Sync, which allows decentralized file synchronization.
