CNBC’s “Amazon Rising” documentary about Amazon.com

CNBC aired an hour (with commercials) documentary by David Faber about the start and rise of Amazon.com. Amazon Rising was up to date including the recently announced Amazon Fire Phone.

It aired on Sunday, June 29th and Monday, June 30th. I was able to record and watch it from that original airing. It is airing for repeat airing on CNBC, check local listings.

Unfortunately for the documentary, Amazon did not wish to cooperate so it only had an outsiders perspective aided by a few former employees, at the executive level and at the warehouse level. The film discussed how Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos dives into new projects and is focused on the customer experience. Most of the information was previously available and possibly commonly known, but the show does gather it all into one place.

From CNBC’s press release for Amazon Rising:

CNBC tells the story of a shrewd visionary named Jeff Bezos who bet his fortunes on the exploding internet and created one of the most admired and feared companies in the world. Today, Amazon sells everything from accordions to zippers – nearly $80 billion worth a year — and has changed the way we shop, bringing goods to our doorstep faster than we ever imagined. Correspondent David Faber reports on a powerhouse that has upended the publishing and retail industries, and faces increasing scrutiny as it extends its reach into the fabric of American life.
