Is a notepad a secure place to keep your passwords? Password Minder thought so

One that’s going around the web lately is poking fun at the Internet Password Minder infomercial. Infomercials are hardly known for their quality production and fair representation of their product but for this, even the concept is flawed.

The infomercial states how problematic passwords can be and suggests their product, essentially a notepad with labeled lines for user name, password, notes, and URL, as the ultimate cure.

Ellen took it a step further on her show with a little solution to the Password Minder’s security risk.

For better or worse, it seems the Internet Password Minder is no longer available as the domain redirects to the infomercial company’s site.

Even before Ellen got her digs in, the IEEE Spectrum magazine gave the product a jab with its own article.

Of course, the security risk of having a notepad full of credentials to access websites like your bank account next to your computer and clearly labeled is problematic. I recommend using KeePass as a database to keep track of your accounts with a master password keeping them secure.
