Free eBook: Windows 8 Overview for IT Professionals from Microsoft Press

I think Windows 8 is a fine upgrade for consumers. As an IT Pro, I’m not terribly excited about it coming to the enterprise. It’s changing the game a lot and not necessarily for the better. I’m not looking forward to explaining why a user who bought a Windows RT device won’t be able to use our standard applications unless they can be acquired through the Windows Store. I’m also not looking forward to complaints about the UI changes – “I agree with you but there’s nothing I can do about it.”

My opinion, about not looking forward to Windows 8, is changing a little bit by reading this free ebook that Microsoft Press has provided, Introducing Windows 8: An Overview for IT Professionals.

Just as Microsoft Press provided a free PDF version of an Intro to Windows Server 2012, the PDF version of this Window 8 Intro for IT Pros is also free. Check out the posting from Microsoft Press for the link to the download. (147 pages, 6.5MB PDF)

If you would prefer a hard copy of the book, which so far has been detailed and clarifying, you can pre-order from Amazon.com for less than $10.
