Collide, a collaborative IDE Google was developing, goes open-source

The Google offices in Atlanta are closing and much of what they were working on is also being put out to pasture. As told from one Googler, Scott Blum, whose last day with Google is today, one nifty project is being gifted to the open-source community. It is a collaborative IDE called Collide. Think of it like Google’s other sunset project, Wave, but used by developers to code together.

Collide forks from Google Collide and is still a work in progress but manages to introduce some interesting features to the developer community using a web-based IDE. Its external requirements currently stand at Java 7 and Ant 1.8.4+. It is still lacking many security features like authentication, SSL support, and user account management but it should be safe to use in a LAN environment.

You can check out the project from its Google Code page. It will certainly be something to keep an eye on as its development continues to improve the process of coding in a team.
