Firefox 12 released, removes UAC for reinstalls

Based on the Firefox plans for 2012 document released with Firefox 11, we have received the Firefox Silent Updates feature with today’s release. The process has been improved with fewer UAC prompts for reinstalls and allows auto-updates for the future.

The Mozilla Blog posted an article today that went into detail of the update process being simplified by removing the UAC prompt for reinstalls and 85 improvements to built-in developer tools.

Under Tools, Options – Advanced and then the Update tab, you will see the new options to allow automatically installing updates, checking for updates with manual install, and never checking. Also, there is an option to use a background service to install the updates.

Other than that, the changes include the usual bug fixes and a number of security fixes.

You can see the release notes and the complete list of changes for the full report. Download Firefox 12 from mozilla.org.
