Microsoft takes a direct shot at Google amidst privacy policy changes

Google is changing its privacy policies and terms of service, as multiple emails and several pop-ups have alerted me. Unfortunately for Google, this has not gone over well and has drawn a lot of criticism from fans and foes alike, including Congress asking Google for clarification on the changes. Microsoft, never one to miss an opportunity, has taken their own shot at Google as well.

In a blog post to The Official Microsoft Blog, Microsoft writes: Gone Google? Got Concerns? We Have Alternatives. I never thought I’d see the day where people would think of Microsoft as the lesser of two evils.

When we read the coverage last week, it was clear people were honestly wrestling with the choices that had been made for them and were looking for options or alternatives.

The changes Google announced make it harder, not easier, for people to stay in control of their own information. We take a different approach – we work to keep you safe and secure online, to give you control over your data, and to offer you the choice of saving your information on your hard drive, in the cloud, or on both.

For your alternatives, Microsoft suggests Hotmail, Bing, Office 365, and Internet Explorer.

To get the word out even more, writes Corporate Vice President, Corporate Communications Frank X. Shaw, Microsoft is placing a series of full-page ads in major newspapers this week.
