Product Review: Tripp-Lite 6U Wall-Mount Rack Enclosure

A rack does not have a whole lot to it to review. It either works or it doesn’t. After networking my house this past Summer, I picked up a 48-port switch for all the connections and other devices in my home office. The switch is able to be mounted in a rack and with all the cables coming into the area, it was looking pretty a bit disorganized. I was not interested in a full rack due to space constraints and minimal hardware currently.

In my browsing, I found this nice 6U rack by Tripp-Lite on Amazon. The steel enclosure allows you to lock the front and side panels and optionally mount the enclosure to the wall.

The material is steel and is very sturdy. It helped me organize and hide the large number of cables coming into the corner of the room. With the switch now rack-mounted, it gets better air flow than before while a rack-mount shelf in the rack also hold my cable modem, router, and other network devices. It solved the problem of keeping things organized and improves the aesthetics of the room. Even though it’s just a home office and not a server room, a rack still improved the looks of everything by keeping it all tidy.
