If you’ve worked with WordPress to any extent, you understand that it is a very flexible platform. I have talked with people about my sites using WordPress or discussed the idea of building a site for them but some respond “Oh, I just don’t like the format of a blog.” Since most of that is controlled by your theme in WordPress, I figured I’d write this post covering some themes that showcase some of the unique layouts available in WordPress themes.
Retro-fitted
Let’s start with the basics. The usual blog format presents posts with the most recent content at the top and older posts down below. Retro-fitted and all of the themes at Theme Hybrid do a great job of presenting your content with a great looking style.

Promote your latest novel with this theme specifically designed for promoting a book.

If you’re a web hosting reseller, this theme makes for a great presentation of your products or any other services that might fit the template.
News Time
Make a blog far more interesting with a magazine style to it to present your content in a completely different way and emphasize your photos.

Turn your site into a Q & A portal for your intranet or online community and make your very own Yahoo! Answers.
Minicard
The Minicard theme works great as a digital business card or portfolio.
Landscape
If your main content is photos, Landscape will showcase your work front and center.
Clear
Sometimes the Internet can be too distracting of a place for both readers and writers. The theme Clear removes the distractions with its clean, minimal presentation.
FaultPress
Turn your WordPress installation into a full blown bug tracking/ticketing application with the FaultPress theme.
SupportPress
A follow up to FaultPress, SupportPress builds upon the previous theme and make a great help desk web application.
Slanted
I am not a fan of Tumblr. Something about it just strikes me as a horrible interpretation of web publishing and more limited than WordPress. If you’d like to use WordPress but wish it were more like Tumblr, check out the theme Slanted. The developers designed it to mimic Tumblr.
Bookclub
A child theme of Listings, Bookclub works well to show off recent books. Perhaps it would work well for a book review or movie review site.
Headway Themes
Headway themes is still setting up shop but it makes some very exciting promises with its themes. The biggest feature is its visual editor. It allows you to draw blocks on the screen and you can make a block what you want: header, navigation, content, widget areas, or other components. You can drag blocks around the page to rearrange or resize them. You can also customize colors, fonts, backgrounds, shadows, and other styles without having to code anything.
