Microsoft Unveils a Concept Video For Our Digital Future

Microsoft published a concept video that is to depict the future in 5-10 years. The video’s purpose is to help move the technology company toward the future and imagine a reality beyond today’s limitations. Microsoft’s president of the Office division, Kurt DelBene, promoted the video in a TechNet blog post, citing it as a way to show Microsoft’s view on the future of productivity.

We create these videos to help tell the story we see unfolding in technology, and how it will impact our lives in the future. The video shows our vision for a future where technology extends and highlights our productive capabilities; it helps us manage our time better, focus our attention on the most important things, and foster meaningful connections with the people we care about.

Watch this video in full screen. Nothing else does it justice.

This video just reminds me and makes me sad for the Microsoft Courier that was cancelled.

All of the ideas in the video are based on real technology. Some of the capabilities, such as speech recognition, real time collaboration and data visualization already exist today. Others are not yet available in specific products, but represent active research and development happening at Microsoft and other companies.

The video is beautiful and the future they paint is amazing. I wonder what the concept video looked like for Office 97 where Clippy was flying around and getting in the way. Actually, it would be awesome for somebody to edit this video into a parody with Clippy interfering all the time.
