It’s National Protect Your Identity Week – Go shred documents free

October 16-22, 2011 has been Protect Your Identity Week. The week of encouraging consumers to take steps to protect themselves from identity theft and be knowledgeable if it strikes them is a program of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling, The National Association of Triads, Inc., and the National Sheriffs’ Association with sponsorship from CINTAS, AllClear ID, and CellPhoneBank.org. You can find out more about preventing identity theft at www.protectyouridnow.org.

Although the week is almost up, events are still going on. For example, in Mattoon, IL, a “Shred Day” is going on tomorrow. CINTAS will have a truck at the Lender’s Bagel factory where you can bring your documents to be shredded by an industrial shredder. Things like bank statements, medical records, or any other documents with personal identifying information can be brought and shredded.
