CNN Now Offering Live Streaming – Follows HBO Go Model For Current Cable Subscribers

CNN announced that it has made its 24-hour news network available for live streaming. CNN.com/video has entered a new video beta to test out the new features it introduces. You can watch previously archived collections and TV Shows as well as CNN’s live broadcast – with a catch.

In addition to being able to watch CNN videos on the web, you can also watch them on the new iPad and iPhone apps.

Unfortunately for many, CNN is following the same model as HBO Go in that you have to be a current subscriber in order to watch these videos online. With HBO Go, you have to be an HBO customer while CNN only requires that you be able to access CNN from home through a participating provider. The currently supported providers include Verizon, Cox, Comcast, AT&T U-Verse, Dish, and Suddenlink. That leaves quite a few customers in the dark for streaming though they are paying cable customers like those of us with Mediacom. I made it through Game of Thrones and was told by Mediacom support on Twitter that they didn’t have a specific date but it would be soon.

Hopefully more channels follow CNN’s suit and start to offer our access to TV in more flexible options.
