YouTube Invites You To Check Out Cosmic Panda, An Experimental Interface Change

YouTube has a number of different experiments available to test out and they’d like your feedback. The latest experiment is called Cosmic Panda and YouTube is asking for you to try out the interface changes it brings. After enough tweaks and feedback, perhaps Cosmic Panda will become the default view of YouTube.

So what the heck is Cosmic Panda?

We’re always trying out new things here at the Tube and Cosmic Panda is our way of letting you in on some of the fun. Here’s what to expect when you follow the cosmic panda over the double rainbow:
  • A new experience for watching videos and playlists
  • More page designs and better editing tools to customize your channel
  • Keep watching when moving between videos, playlists, and channels (Chrome only)
  • Stylish new look and feel

To activate the Cosmic Panda experiment for your account, you can visit YouTube’s TestTube and try it out. You can also just go straight to www.youtube.com/cosmicpanda. There is also a Google Chrome extension that allow you to quickly toggle the new interface.

So what does the new interface get you? Well, as you can see from Nyan Cat, the new interface changes colors and the layout. The darker background surrounding the video adds contrast and helps the video stand out more. The new style also matches with the other Google products since the recent revamp.

Unfortunately, YouTube comments are still just as stupid and are prevalent right below the video while getting to the embed code requires a number of clicks.
