AVG’s Second Quarter Report Shows Malware Trends Across Multiple Platforms

Antivirus software is installed around the world and gets to see (and hopefully stop) a lot of malicious attempts to infect a computer. AVG has compiled their data from the second quarter of what their anti-virus and Internet Security software has recognized in the AVG Community Powered Threat Report – Q2 2011 (pdf).

The numbers are nicely graphed out to make it quite apparent what threats are on the rise and most likely to be encountered.

The data covers PCs as well as Macs and mobile malware. The Fake AV that seemed to catch everybody off-guard a few weeks ago was seen as it climbed quickly, started to diminish, and then relaunched.

The report is a 21-page easy read with lots of visualizations for the data that can help explain malware trends and what people need to be on the look out for. The Q2 Threat Report (pdf) is further explained in the press release that accompanied it.

You can help protect yourself from these threats with AVG’s AntiVirus 2011 or Internet Security software.
