Dot Coms Make Quite An Impression With Super Bowl Commercials

Yesterday gave us a pretty good game between the Packers and the Steelers with some entertaining commercials to go along with it. Pepsi returned from a one year hiatus with some good commercials and other classics like Doritos, Bud Light, and Coca-Cola were also there. A few summer blockbuster movies like Cowboys & Aliens, Captain America, Thor, and Pirates of the Caribbean had big trailer releases. You can review and vote on all of the Super Bowl commercials at Youtube.com/adblitz.

One of the noticeable trends in the past few years has been an ever increasing presence of technology companies and websites running commercials. Here are a few of the big ones after the jump:

LivingSocial.com – It made headlines a few weeks ago when it offered a national deal of a $20 Amazon.com gift card for $10. Now with a Super Bowl commercial, it might really start taking off.

Groupon.com – A similar business as LivingSocial.com, this commercial seems to be the most controversial commercial that aired last night. Many people are upset that Groupon.com downplayed the suffering of Tibet and the threat to its culture from the Chinese government. See for yourself:

Chatter.com – This one led right into halftime and featured the musical guests, the Black Eyed Peas, and both the commercial and the performers gave a lacking performance in my opinion.

GoDaddy.com – The domain registrar and hosting company was up to their usual shenanigans and a male chauvanist approach with their GoDaddy girls commercials. They are mostly a teaser for a more “risque” online version of the commercial but from the one I watched, it was perfectly SFW just longer and cheaper than a Super Bowl commercial would be. Sex sells and GoDaddy was hand-picked as a “bad company” versus every other commercial out there that objectifies women. I use GoDaddy because it’s a reliable domain registrar despite having a bloated site and the stupid GoDaddy.com Girls.
