Pillbox – A Legitimate Pharmacy Site For Identifying Pills

I know it’s hard to believe with all the Canadian pharmacy pages and scams out there, but here’s a legitimate site run by the National Institutes of Health that can help you identify a pill should you not know what it is or where it came from. Come up with any scenario you’d like (randomly found pill, spilled different bottles together, cleaning out a passed-on loved one’s house) and the site can be useful to identify those pills and find out more information about them.

To access the Pillbox site, currently in beta, you can find it at http://pillbox.nlm.nih.gov. You then enter what information you can gather about the pill like its shape, color, size, scoring, or imprint, and the list will narrow down to the possible matches. You will then hopefully be able to match the pill in your hand to an image or to the information provided by Pillbox.

Once you’ve selected a match, you can find out the information the site has on the pill. It also includes links to the FDA drug label and the known drug information.
