404 Tech Support

Onto the Next Theme

All weekend, I’ve been tinkering with a new theme here at 404 Tech Support. If you’ve visited over the course of the weekend, you’ve definitely seen it (and I apologize if my tinkering disrupted your visit). I’ve still got a small handful of changes I’d like to make but the majority of the installation is done. I’m enjoying it because it has made my site more responsive and introduced new features. For a reminder of what the old theme looked like, here’s your reminder.

The old theme was a highly-tweaked version of StudioPress from DailyBlogTips. The current theme is called Hybrid-News and comes from the Theme Hybrid website. One of the cooler features I’m enjoying of the theme is the drop-down menus that were introduced with WordPress 3.0. They’re a breeze to control and allow links to custom pages as well as built-in WordPress pages. Another feature I like is that the site is faster than I was ever able to get with the StudioPress theme. The text is also visible from the very beginning and doesn’t depend on a white background to load in order to be readable.

Along with the theme change, I’m rolling out two other options. You’re now able to advertise with 404 Tech Support through BuySellAds. I’m also getting back into freelance tech support. I’m going to branch out from just writing here on the site to getting back and doing consulting for home users and small businesses. If you’re between Charleston, IL and Champaign, IL we can probably arrange for me to stop by and take care of your problem right away.

I’d love to hear some feedback about the theme change even if you preferred the old theme. I’m open to suggestions to address anything you think I’m missing on the site. Just let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Thanks!
