Fiverr – A Marketplace of $5 Exchanges

Put your money where your mouth is. If you’re looking for something particular and you’re on a limited budget (say $5), you can find almost anything at Fiverr. Fiverr is a marketplace that is fueled by $5 exchanges. You can find all sorts of different services available for $5 including palm readings, logo designs, link exchanges, resume’ proof-readings, SEO reviews of your website, installing Drupal, or creating a jingle for you.

You can tell Fiverr is a part of the Web 2.0 because it is a common word that is misspelled and you can find it at www.fiverr.com. You can search or browse the offerings by category to find something you’re looking for. The categories include: Fun & Bizarre, Graphics, Social Marketing, Writing, Advertising, Music & Audio, Tips & Advice, Business, Technology, Programming, Other, and Silly Stuff. Individuals will listed the estimated time they expect it to take for them to complete what they’re selling.

Once you find something you’d like, you can make the purchase through PayPal for $5. With your order in place, the seller will either accept or reject your order. If they accept it, they’ll contact you for more information.

Once you receive the finished product (assuming there’s something tangible to receive), you can review and rate the seller to let others know how this person did.

If you have an idea of something you’re willing to do or make for $5, you can also use Fiverr to sell your service. For each gig you complete, you’ll receive $4 meaning the Fiverr site (and PayPal fees) receive a dollar for the service they provide. You can withdraw funds after you’ve accumulated $40 in your balance.

Fiverr seems pretty interesting for a little niche market at a fixed price. It’s still in beta but it will be interesting to see where it goes in the future. I’m currently awaiting a logo design for my next project through Fiverr and hopefully it turns out better than you’d expect on a $5 budget, “you get what you pay for”.
